Department of Politics and International Studies

The Pembroke Politics Society and the Department of Politics & International Studies (POLIS) invite Clive Betts, Matthijs Rooduijn and Melle Garschagen to discuss the upcoming general elections in the Netherlands. The roundtable is chaired by Pieter van Houten.

With the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump, 2016 will be remembered as the year of the 'Populist Revolt'. This trend may continue in 2017, with elections coming up in the Netherlands, France and Germany.

On 15 March 2017, the Dutch people will elect all 150 members of the 'Tweede Kamer' (House of Representatives). A total of 28 parties have made the final cut and will appear on the ballot box for the general election. Geert Wilders's right-wing populist Freedom Party (PVV) is leading the opinion polls and may even become the biggest party.

What can we expect from the Dutch general elections? Join our round-table discussion with:
- Clive Betts (MP; British perspective)
- Matthijs Rooduin (University of Utrecht; academic perspective)
- Melle Garschagen (news correspondent; media perspective)

Chair: Pieter van Houten (University of Cambridge)

The event is jointly organised by the Pembroke Politics Society and POLIS (the Department of Politics & International Studies).
